Property, Fleet & Liability Insurance

The Council created the property and fleet insurance programs in 1989. The property insurance program includes your buildings and contents, boiler and machinery, inland marine, earthquake and flood, crime and garage keepers insurance. The fleet insurance program has been successful in maintaining coverage that is essential for school districts, while continuing to keep premiums under control. Members of these programs enjoy the benefit of lower premiums due to the aggregate of values. In 2001, the liability insurance program was created at the request of our advisory committee. Coverage includes general liability, Professional E&O and employment practices.

For these programs, the Ohio Schools Council utilizes the services of an independent insurance consultant to not only assist in policy decisions made for our members, but also to keep our members informed of changes in the insurance industry. Our agents and consultant provide annual Risk Management services to members and our consultant can perform risk management audits to help districts reduce their premiums and exposure.

In Spring, 2009, Council bid all three lines of coverage. Our consultant designed the minimum standards and enhanced the coverage for our program members. OSC accepted more than one vendor and carrier to insure our members, which allowed the districts to make individual selections.

Also in 2006, Ohio Casualty Insurance Company approved an OSC Affinity Group Discount. The districts are first rated, and then the discount applied. The current Affinity Discount is 9.2%.
